Indoor Climb

Each Monday evening between 6:00pm - 7:30pm, during school terms, we meet at the Essex University Sports Centre's Indoor Climbing Wall. All equipment is provided by us and beginners are welcome to come along and have a go at climbing.

Prices: For members: £3.00 for under 16s, £3.50 for 16 & over. All non-members: £4.00 (Non members may only attend a maximum of three sessions per calendar year).

Outdoor Climbing

We don't just climb indoors. We visit some of the finest climbing sites in the Peak District or, nearer to us, Harrison's Rocks or Bowles Rocks.

The BMC has published an excellent booklet that gives parents clear guidance to climbing sports. You can download a PDF copy of the booklet "Young People - Climbing, Hill Walking, Mountaineering - A Parents Guide" here

Mountain Adventure

Mountain walking and scrambling in Snowdonia, the Lake District and Scotland.

Sea Kayaking

We are privileged to have miles of coastland right on our doorstep, and sea kayaking is the perfect way to explore it. Sea kayaks have room to stow camping equipment which means we can paddle and camp overnight on a remote beach.

Inland River Kayaking/Canoeing

We have two rivers in the area that are ideal for a day's kayaking, the Chelmer and the Stour. The Essex Boys and Girls Clubs also organise a challenging 100 mile canoe event on the river Wye too.

Indoor Pool Kayaking

Each year we run a series of pool sessions where we can instruct beginners in the basics of kayaking.

Woodland Skills

Access to privately owned local woodland enables us to take young people to learn some basic skills such as building shelters, starting fires and how to cook on them, carving your own utensils and wood burning crafts.

Affiliations

Out There benefits from some key affiliations that enable the club to call upon resources within the field of paddle sports and mountain sports. We are able to offer additional activities and support through the Essex Boys and Girls Clubs, the BMC and the BCU. We also benefit from grants awarded by The Jack Petchey Foundation. The club's insurance is through the BMC and we have access to important resources centred on child protection. Through our affiliations we are able to pass on benefits too such as discounted purchases made at participating retail outlets. For further information visit the organisations below.
