Established in 1999, The Jack Petchey Foundation gives grants to programmes and projects that benefit young people aged 11-25. The Foundation exists to raise the aspirations of young people, to help them take advantage of opportunities and play a full part in society.

Each year the Out There committee submits two nominations to The Jack Petchey Foundation Achievement Award Scheme of young people in the club who we feel have made a significant contribution, either towards the club or to helping other club members, or because they have demonstrated commitment and improvement in their own climbing skills or in any of the other activities we run. The nominees have a say how the grant money received by Out There is to be spent for that year. In the past the grants have been used to subsidise club trips or to purchase new equipment needed to replace worn or damaged equipment, for example, new climbing harnesses, ropes and helmets.

A parent's view…

"I am just emailing to say thank you for giving Matthew, Kevin and Rachel such a great time in Wales. They may tell you themselves, but, being teenagers, they may not! Matthew and Kevin have talked about it lots, and Rachel sent me a postcard (via Matthew) which said "there is nowhere else I would rather be. It is AMAZING!". I am so pleased that both my children love to visit beautiful wild places. It is such a great thing and gives you peace in your mind as well as physical challenges. You should be pleased that you are giving young people an opportunity to visit these places."
